Metropolitan DC Indoor Firing Range Renovation

Washington, DC
The renovated indoor firing range prepares Metro DC officers for duty with a wide range of possible training and shooting scenarios.
The Metropolitan DC Police Department undertook this project to improve their existing training facility to meet the standards of the FLETC Cheltenham Range facility. Clark Nexsen collaborated with the DC Police Department to explore their goals and challenges, ultimately preparing a Condition Study & Report with recommendations and associated construction cost estimates to enhance the firing range.

Through the renovation of the nearly 18,000 square foot basement of the preexisting firing range and the addition of 2,000 square feet of supporting mechanical facilities for improved ventilation, the firing range today features a qualification/requalification, 25-yard, 15-position walk down range, designed for multipurpose firing that permits static and dynamic courses using various weapons. Additionally, to allow for a variety of training scenarios, the range has the capability of using large props and barricades. Shooters are able to move and targets are arranged in a fixed line.
